Sensory Playgroup at Estacada Public Library Ages 2-5

Sensory for All Storytime Playgroup at Estacada Library ~ Registration Required

Overview: The Sensory for All Storytime Playgroup is a special weekly Parent-Child Interaction class designed for parents, caregivers, and children aged 2-5. Held at the Estacada Library, this playgroup provides a calm and welcoming environment for families who may find typical playgroups overwhelming due to noise or activity levels. With limited class sizes and a focus on sensory-friendly activities, this program promotes meaningful engagement for both children and their caregivers.

The playgroup features a carefully planned schedule that includes an interactive storytime, sensory-focused art and activity centers, and gross motor play. Each element is tailored to the needs and interests of participants, fostering growth, exploration, and joy in a safe setting.

Parents will also have the opportunity to connect with other caregivers and learn about vital social-emotional concepts such as co-regulation and resilience through Todos Juntos’ "Cards for Connection" resources. These tools are designed to help families thrive and prepare their children socially for future school environments.

Schedule:

  • 10:30 AM: Welcome & Announcements
Help children transition into the room, share local events and classes.

  • 10:40 AM: Storytime & Movement
Engage with interactive stories using touchable props.

  • 10:45 AM: Sensory Play Centers
Participate in hands-on activities like playdoh, sensory bins, and puzzles.

  • 11:00 AM: Gross Motor Play
Explore activities such as tumbling, parachute play, stepping stones, and soft toy tossing.

  • 11:30 AM: Clean-up & Dismissal
Practice transitions and prepare to leave.

Program Highlights:

  • Tailored Sensory Play: Activities are specifically designed for sensory exploration in a calm, supportive environment.

  • Parent-Caregiver Support: Caregivers are encouraged to engage in play, connect with others, and receive parent education resources.

  • Community Connections: Access local family resources and learn about events and services available through Todos Juntos’ Family Resource Advocates.

  • Skill Development: Helps children build essential social and emotional skills while preparing for structured school settings.
